God has communicated with us concerning sex, and His message is to honor Him. Any form of sex outside of marriage is sinful. It makes a person less holy and ultimately, optional. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 says that, “…your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God. Your are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore, honor God with your bodies.” Honoring Him with the body not only keeps us pure but allows for self-control. Titus 2:4-5 urges the younger women to be, “self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands.”
As members of a church there is also, of course, one body, united in Christ (1Corinthians 12:27). Jesus does not promote sin (Galatians 2:17). Once a sin enters the body, however, it can become conformed to the world. Worldly conformity leads to spiritual laziness, blindness, and habitual behaviors that are self-destructive. The body does not have to be so enticed into worldly sin as a believer in Christ. 1 John 5:4-5 says, “Everyone born of God overcomes the world…Who is it that overcomes the world? Only the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God overcomes the world.” When a person born of God, believes in Jesus, they have overcome the world. That is amazing news!
Worldly factors to consider before deciding to commit to sexual acts before marriage, include the realities of STDs and early pregnancies. There are never 100% guaranteed protections from STDs or pregnancies unless sex is abstained (Gavin). It is not worth putting the temple of the body at risk for sexual immorality. Two partners who truly desire to follow God should consider the physical damage that results from these factors and then pray for the strength to follow His will beforehand. Two partners might also pray to ask for continuous spiritual encouragement to remain 100% protected from any unfamiliar circumstances of sex before marriage.
Finally, controlling sexual desires is a calling of the Spirit. In Galatians 5:19, sexual immorality and impurity are the first two sins of nature listed. They are, however, a huge part of American culture and are indulged upon consistently. The American culture holds beliefs that are not very serious on the serious matters of sex outside of marriage. Just listen to the newest popular song in America or watch a new hit movie and it becomes easy to realize that worldly sexual sin is a major seller in today’s culture. As a result, American culture makes it harder for believers to follow the Holy Spirit.
We are all warned in Galatians 5 that sinful natures do not inherit the kingdom of God, and that they should be abolished immediately. The freedom of the kingdom is made available through Jesus to all people, and all that is left to do for believers is to not practice sinful acts of any kind. This is done through life in the Spirit. Please read Galatians 5:16-26. Put Him in charge of the physical body. Remember to love in the name of His Son Jesus–for He is the Way to Eternal Life.
